The 2021 Kia Sorento and the 2020 Kia Sorento are great choices if you want an SUV that stands out from the crowd. In 2020, the Kia Sorento got some light exterior changes for a more sculpted and chiseled design. Otherwise, it carried over a convenient size, a generous assortment of features, a stylish cabin, and extended warranty coverage. In 2021, the Sorento hit the markets with even more changes to note. This year, the Sorento has four powertrain options, including a hybrid and a plug-in, along with the regular lineup of gasoline-powered vehicles. The Sorento got an extended wheelbase with a greater interior capacity, and it now borrows styling from the Telluride, another popular Kia SUV, for added flair.


The 2021 and 2020 Kia Sorento differ in their selection of engines. The 2021 Kia Sorento gets a base of 2.5L with four cylinders. The Sorento's base engine delivers 281 HP and just over 310 LB-FT of torque. It comes with an eight-speed transmission. The base engine on the 2020 Sorento was also a 2.5L, but it delivered 185 HP instead. The 2020 Sorento also came with a V6 capable of 290 HP. The 2021 Kia Sorento eliminates the V6 but replaces it with a turbo 1.6L hybrid engine that delivers 277 HP or a plug-in hybrid that produces 261 HP.


There are also some aesthetic differences between the two Sorento model years. The 2021 Sorento is longer and wider than its predecessor. The 2021 adds heated side mirrors as a standard feature at the base level. Otherwise, the base trims of both years get LED lighting and 17-inch alloy wheels. Roof rails and a noise-canceling windshield are added to the next trim level. The second trim also gets glossy black exterior accents and 18-inch wheels. LED fog lights come with the LX, while the SX has 20-inch wheels and LED lights in the rear.


While the base Sorento in 2020 had a seven-inch display screen, you'll get a larger eight-inch display to start with the Sorento in 2021. Additionally, the base-level Sorento has Android Auto and Apple CarPlay in both years, but they are offered as wireless amenities in 2021. The 2021 Sorento also gets a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen on select trims. Many safety aids are standard in both years.
